Three teams reach semi-finals at the IHF Trophy South America - Central American Zone

On Wednesday, 17 April, four more matches were played at the Central American Zone men's youth and junior tournaments of the IHF Trophy South and Central America in Managua, Nicaragua.

In Group A of the youth (U18) tournament, Guatemala claimed their second straight win, 44:12 against Panama, and progressed to the semi-final. They have four points, while El Salvador and Panama, who have no points, will fight for the second place in the group on Thursday at 14:00 (local time).

The situation is similar in Group B, where home side Nicaragua also took their second consecutive win, 52:16 against Honduras. With four points after two games, Nicaragua are now certain to go through, while Honduras and Costa Rica will play for the other semi-final spot at 18:00.

Nicaragua also progressed to the semi-final at the junior (U20) event, as they took so far the biggest win of the competition, 72:21 against El Salvador. Just like at the youth tournament, the home side have the maximum of four points, while Costa Rica and El Salvador will play for the second position in a direct duel at 20:00.

The situation is more complicated at Group B, as Honduras, who had lost against Guatemala on day one, bounced back in the following game against Panama, winning 41:32, as their best scorer Brayan Martinez netted 13 times. So Honduras and Guatemala are level on two points, Panama have zero points, and on Thursday, Guatemala meet Panama at 16:00.
