Girls’ tournament, Placement match 5/6, second leg:
Angola – Australia 39:12 (18:6)
Again 12 goals like yesterday weren’t enough for the
Australian girls to put Angola under pressure in the second placement match 5/6
of the girls YOG tournament in Singapore. After the 37:12 in the first leg on
Monday the African champion clashed the “Aussies” on Tuesday 39:12 (16:8).
Ngalula Kanka was the outstanding player of this game with eleven goals for
Angola. Again Australia only had the power for a quite good starting period,
but then became overrun by the Africans. The score of 8:14 was the closest gap
for the Australians until the end, before Angola speeded up and left the
Aussies without a chance. The second half ended with a clear 23:4 for Angola,
as four matches in five days were too tough for the Australians who scored
their last goal in minute 48.
On Wednesday the decisions of the medalists will be
taken in the Convention Centre, when Brazil and Kazakhstan first play for
Bronze and then Russia and Denmark clash for the first ever Gold medal handed
over in a YOG handball tournament.
