18th Women’s Junior WCh a real success

The Women’s Junior World Championship in Czech Republic is history. 24 teams, 100 matches and 14 days, these are the bare figures of the tournament with two finalists, France and Sweden, that were not overwhelmingly dominant throughout the whole tournament but that came closer and closer to their best form in the course of the tournament.

Heja Sverige or Allez Les Bleue: That was the question, before the final match of the Women´s Junior World Championship between France and Sweden started. Attended by 1.000 spectators in the Sareza hall in Ostrava (Czech Republic) the answer was given after 60 thrilling minutes of pure handball. The gold medalist of the 18th Women’s Junior World Championship is Sweden who beat France with 29:22.

Bronze medal match: Hungary won after tough fight

The team of Hungary won the bronze medal at the 18th Women´s Junior World Championship in the Czech Republic. In the so-called little final, they defeated Serbia with 26:24 after extra-time and celebrated their third place.

Placement Round: Russia made it in the last period

The match for places five and six brought together two teams, who both had the ambition, to play along for the title in this Junior World Championship. At the end Russia won against Korea with 31:28, but both teams were only partially satisfied with the result in this tournament.

Placement Round: Poland with a surprise and Host say goodbye with a victory

Even though nearly 100 fans supported the Norwegians, the Scandinavian girls lost the placement match against Poland with 23:24 and are now eighth in the final ranking of this tournament.

The final matches will be staged on Saturday to mark the end of the Women’s Junior World Championship in Czech Republic. France and Sweden, which qualified for the final, to a large extent performed inspiring handball to win their games and were able to constantly improve their performance in the course of the tournament.

The final of this Women´s Junior World Championship is perfect: After Sweden won the second semifinal of this tournament in Ostrava against Serbia with 27:25, the Scandinavians are looking forward to the final against France on Saturday. Serbia still have the chance to win a medal. Precondition for this success will be a victory in the bronze medal-match against Hungary.

Semi-Finals 1 - France win over Hungary

The Women´s Junior World Championship has it´s first finalist: After 60 really exciting minutes of Handball France won the first semifinal of this tournament against Hungary with 28:21 and is now heading for the final on Saturday 14 July against the winner of the second semifinal between Serbia and Sweden while Hungary will play the bronze medal-match against the looser.

Four teams left - Preview to the semi-finals

After completion of the preliminary round, the eighth-finals and quarter-finals, the semi-finals of the Women’s Junior World Championship will be played tomorrow in Czech Republic. France, Hungary, Serbia and Sweden are those four sides which have qualified for the semi-finals of the title contests for young hopefuls following the quarter-finals, which had certainly lived up to its promises of excitement and class.
