In close cooperation with the organizer, the International Handball Federation has scheduled the draw event to be conducted in Recife, Brazil, the hosting city of the VI Men’s and Women’s Beach Handball World Championships, on 9 May 2014 at 11:00 (CET – 5).

All 24 spots for the event in Brazil have already been confirmed.

Taking into consideration that Brazil is reigning World Champion and host country at the same time, the available place has been allocated to the continent of Europe. Therefore the teams are seeded as follows:

The pots will be drawn downward from 5 to 2. After those rows 5 to 2 have been decided, pot 6 will be drawn. Then organizer Brazil has the prerogative to assign itself to a group of its choice in row 1, before the remaining teams in pot 1 are drawn.

Women's competition:
Pot 1: BRA, HUN
Pot 2: DEN, NOR
Pot 3: UKR, URU

Brazil as host has the right to choose the group they will compete in. Not more than two teams from Pan-America, and not more than one team from Asia, can be in the same group. The pots will be drawn from bottom to top 6 to 1, whereas organizer Brazil has the prerogative to assign itself to a group of its choice in row 1, before the remaining teams in pot 1 are drawn.

The competition system is organized in three phases. In the preliminary round, the teams will be divided into two groups of 6 teams each. The best three teams from each group will play against each other in the main round. The best four teams will then qualify for the final stage – semi-finals and medal matches.
