The African Handball Confederation (CAHB) 2018 African Men’s Junior (U21) Championships starts today (7 September) in Morocco’s capital city, Marrakech, finishing exactly a week later, on Friday 14th September.

Hosted by the Royal Moroccan Handball Federation, 10 teams will participate, initially in two preliminary groups, following the draw last month conducted at the CAHB headquarters in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

The groups drawn were:

Group A: Tunisia (TUN), Algeria (ALG), Angola (ANG), Nigeria (NGR), Zambia (ZAM)

Group B: Egypt (EGY), Morocco (MAR), DR Congo (COD), Guinea (GUI), Sierra Leone (SLE)

After winning the junior edition of the CAHB Africa IHF Trophy in Kigali, Rwanda a few days after the draw, Nigeria qualified through to Morocco who will face the current title holders in the group stage – Tunisia - who beat Egypt 30:29 in Bamako, Mali in 2016.

The first CAHB African Men’s Junior Championship took place back in 1980, in Lagos, Nigeria, and the 2018 edition will be the 19th edition of the event in which Egypt are the record winners, with 11 championship wins.
