For the second consecutive IHF Men’s World Championship, blind and visually-impaired handball fans will be able to experience the world’s best national teams do battle.

The German Handball Federation (DHB) have confirmed that 2019 IHF Men’s World Championship games in Berlin and Cologne will feature a special service thanks to a co-operation between the DHB and AWO-Passport e.V. and its project T_OHR, with the kind support of Aktion Mensch.

This follows the success of the audio-description service at the 2017 IHF Men’s World Championship in France.

"We want to make our home World Championship and the special atmosphere in the halls come alive for all people in Germany," said Mark Schober, CEO of the DHB. "Therefore, we are very glad to be able to offer a blind reportage together with AWO Passgenau e.V. and the project T_OHR at Denmark/Germany 2019.”

The Centre for Visually Impaired and Blind Portrayals in Society and Sport (T_OHR) is funded by Aktion Mensch and the DFL Foundation and has been working since April 2018 to improve the participation of blind and partially sighted people in social events.

“Visually handicapped people will be able to participate fully on site at Denmark/Germany 2019 thanks to the special reporting format,” said Jörg Rodenbüsch, Managing Director of AWO-Passgenau.e.V. “Fans will be able to see with their ears.”

Any fans interested in participating in the service can take advantage of the ‘Blindenreportage’ offer which includes single game tickets for the five group matches of the German team against Unified Korea (10 January), Brazil (12 January), Russia (14 January), France (15 January) and Serbia (17 January) in the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin as well as the German games in the main round in the LANXESS arena Cologne (19, 21 and 23 January).

In Berlin, 34 tickets per game will be made available to purchase and in Cologne, 32 will be on sale, all via the ticket hotline of CTS Eventim +49 (0) 180 6 2019 01.
