Alison Pineau in Focus
Alison Pineau, who plays for the French club Handball Metz, made it into the All-Star Team of the World Championship 2009 as the best playmaker. She was largely responsible for her team’s win of the silver medal which was a big surprise for many people – but also for the fact that her team was the only team to defeat later World Champion Russia during the whole tournament. In 2007, at the age of 18, she was already part of the French national team which came in fifth at the WCh in its own country –
one year after she had played her first international match within the women’s team against China. After two Frenchmen (Nikola Karabatic and Thierry Omeyer) had been elected World Handball Player of the Year in the last two years, Pineau now continues this success for the women. Up to now, she has scored 153 goals during 67 international matches for France. She won her first international medal with the French national team at the Youth European Championship 2005. This time and one year later at the Youth World Championship, Pineau was voted into the All-Star Team as the best playmaker.
