Coming up: Fiery December to end fantastic 2024 on a high

The last month of the year will bring plenty of handball, just before 2025 will make its debut with the IHF Men’s World Championship.

Three continents will have their best teams collide for the continental titles in women’s handball, with the Women’s EHF EURO 2024, the 2024 CAHB Women’s Handball Championship and the 2024 AHF Asian Women’s Handball Championship in full fledge.

The Women’s EHF EURO 2024 threw off on Thursday, 28 November, with 24 teams at the start. The preliminary round of the competition will be concluded in Austria, Hungary and Switzerland on 3 December, with the main round and the knockout phase seeing a winner crowned on 15 December.

The 2024 CAHB Women’s Handball Championship has also started in Kinshasa, DR Congo, on 27 November, with the preliminary round also concluding on 3 December, before the knockout phase will see the final played on 7 December, and the gold medal awarded.

The 20th Asian Women’s Handball Championship is scheduled to take place from 3 to 10 December 2024, in New Delhi, India. Eight teams will take the court in the Indian capital, with favourites Japan and the Republic of Korea vying for the crown.

All the three events are qualification events for the 2025 IHF Women’s World Championship, which is due to take place between 26 November and 14 December 2024 in Germany and the Netherlands.

Moving on to the younger age categories, there are several competitions hosted under the aegis of the International Handball Federation in December.

The men's junior tournament of the IHF North America and the Caribbean will be staged in Mexico from 4 to 8 December 2024. The event serves as qualification event for the Intercontinental Phase of the IHF Trophy. 

The men's youth and junior tournaments of the IHF Trophy Oceania will be staged in Tahiti from 16 to 20 December 2024. The events serve as qualification event for the Intercontinental Phase of the IHF Trophy. 

At club level, the Machineseeker EHF Champions League, the men’s premium club competition in Europe, will have one more round in December, as two sides are sure to lead the two groups in the preliminary round – Telekom Veszprem, the reigning IHF Men’s Club World Championship title holders and FC Barcelona.

Onto the sandy beaches, the 2024 South and Central American Youth Beach Handball Championship takes place between 5 and 7 December in Iquique, Chile. This is a qualification event for the 2025 IHF Youth Beach Handball World Championship, which will take place in Tunisia.
