IHF C Licence courses prove successful in Argentina and Brazil
26 Mar. 2025

Two IHF C Licence courses took place in the last months in Argentina and Brazil, with the South and Central American Handball Confederation in focus, with 62 licences awarded to the participants in Buenos Aires and Sao Paulo.
Both courses were led by the IHF CCM Lecturer, Rolando Jorge Costa de Freitas.
The first course took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, between 5 and 11 November 2024, and saw 28 of the 30 registered participants attending, with the candidates being either physical education teachers or well-established coaches, which had experience working abroad or with younger age categories national teams.
Over the seven days of the course, the modules of teaching were divided into theoretical and practical studies, with several intermediate to advanced handball and sport science topics ,including defensive systems, fast break transitions, attacking play in inferiority or superiority, as well as the tactical decisions which a coach is faced with during a handball match.
According to Freitas’ report, the work put in by the candidates was intense and the coaches proved a good level of proficency in handball, with their experience being crucial in a successful course.
All the 28 attending coaches were awarded their IHF C Licence at the end of the course which took place between 5 and 11 November 2024.
The IHF C Licence course in Brazil took place between 27 October and 5 November 2024 in Sao Paulo, with the venue being the arena of Brazilian club Esporte Clube Pinheiros.
35 candidates started the course, with only 34 being able to attend and the schedule also saw seven full days of handball, with the same curriculum as the Argentina course, with plenty of knowledge shared regarding defence, attack and fast breaks, with two tests in the last days – both theoretical and practical, with the latter seeing the candidates divided into seven groups.
All of the candidates were also physical education teachers, as in Brazil it is mandatory to have that degree to be employed as a coach, as all candidates had a high experience and handball knowledge, which proved to be invaluable assets, according to IHF CCM Lecturer Freitas.Â
The 34 attending coaches were awarded their IHF C Licence at the end of the course which took place in Sao Paulo.
